old and new
I combined my old and new ways of working - I did a pencil sketch, scanned it, and added color in photoshop. If nothing else, it's a flexible way of working (it's rather difficult to haul the Cintiq around).
And file under v. useful - it's my purse, about 7" x 10" - small, but it still holds my wallet, sketchpad, a pencil, keys and phone.
And what else do you need, really?

Finished!
Well, that took longer than was probably necessary. I'm fairly pleased with the drawing - and I really like the sneakers. My problem? Converse doesn't seem to be making these anymore - I can't find them anywhere. Sigh. Why is it every time I find something I really like, they stop making them?
Manufacturers hate me.

half done
you can see a bit more of my process in this one, with some of the underlying sketch showing through the color. Still not entirely certain where I'm going with this, but I need to finish it up on Sunday - I need the sneakers back!
And they're sitting where I usually keep my mouse, so now I can't use the mouse, either.
I need a new studio.

more cookies
Great, now I'm hungry. I need to stop drawing food-related objects.
Anyway, a metal gingerbread man this time - a little different from the standard ones (which I also have - I should draw them too).
He's sitting on a pink scarf - so I guess it's two things in one picture!

Blog Action Day - Poverty
It's blog action day - when bloggers all post on a common topic to raise awareness.
Today's topic: Poverty.
Which is a pretty big topic. In fact, one of the biggest problems with poverty reduction is that the topic is so big that people - who by nature want to do something - get stymied by the complexity of the issue.
The upside of that is - there's lots you can do! From funding Kiva (a personal fave) to buying Fair Trade coffee, to supporting your local United Way, to joining organizations like Make Poverty History to supporting nutritious meals in your local schools - it's all good. Whatever you can. Whenever you can.
And this little guy? (he's about the size of my thumb) Handmade in East Africa by an artisian's group dedicated to creating ongoing employment - you can get similiar things from Ten Thousand Villages .

something new
well, the bucket is new - from D & S's wedding a couple of weeks ago. The flowers are new, but also... transient. They won't last more than a week. But it's a new drawing technique for me as well. I'm not sure how to add color to it, but it's working for me in b & w.
It also reminds me of something - any ideas?

mmmm.... caffeine
Well, not a lot of caffeine - I drink tea, not coffee. But I need some sort of artificial energy boost, or I'll never get anything done.
I've decided to set down some rules for this blog, or else it will either completely consume my life, or be completely abandoned. Since neither really works for me, here we go:
Posting three times per week - most likely Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, but it may switch up a bit. I'm going to install an RSS feed so those who feel like keeping track don't have to keep checking back.
No more than an hour per posting - this was what was killing me before. I was spending too much time on each drawing, and then not posting because I didn't have the time.
And now, back to our regularly scheduled blog: No, this is not a paper cup. It is a ceramic cup made to look like a paper cup. A little difficult to get across. A new purchase, and so far, v. useful.
I'll be back....
...very soon. I've been taking care of a few rather minor personal things (that sort of spiraled out of control). But it's all good now. Check this space tomorrow.
